We’re heading into one of the best times of the year and we wanted to take a moment to share with you an update regarding our financial position as a church as well as an exciting, new area of generosity we are about to step into!

Through the fall we have seen some incredibly impactful moments within our church family and the Greater Portland community – our first ever Leadership Summit, Vision Sunday and Night of Prayer were incredible launches! Fellowship of Christian Athletes started three new club teams, the Student Ministry team organized and facilitated a community soccer night for our New Mainers, and seven families dedicated their children to be raised up in the ways of Jesus, just to name a few. And we can’t forget our amazing Baptism Sunday in October where 31 people declared Jesus is Lord and committed to following him!

As we head into a season of Joyful Giving – our year-end generosity initiative – we desire, first and foremost as a church, to give joyfully with surrendered hearts back to God! You may already know when we, as followers of Jesus, give out of a heart of surrender and worship, we experience the generous heart of God in a whole new way. This year our church family is partnering with the community in a really exciting way! In years past, we have committed our entire Christmas offering to be given away to a local or global effort. As we continue to step into our #ForGreaterPortland vision, we feel God has called us to give 10% of our entire Joyful Giving efforts to a local organization, possibly resulting in twice the amount we have ever given at Christmas. As we enter Joyful Giving on Sunday, Nov. 28th, be on the lookout as we will be sharing about this year’s partner and all of the incredible work they do in providing specific and holistic support to those that desperately need it in the state of Maine.

Wherever you are in your generosity journey, whether giving faithfully, giving when you’re able or you have yet to start, we invite you to take that next step in giving to the mission and ministry of our church family. It could be a first step of giving back to God for the first time or maybe setting up recurring gifts or, for some of us, it could be stepping into a deeper commitment of giving to God. Whatever that next step is, we invite you to join our team in praying about it and stepping into what Jesus is inviting us to do through the mission and ministry of this church family!

We are JOYFUL Givers

2 Corinthians 9:6-9

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written:

“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”[a]

We Give Jesus our First and our Best

Genesis 4:2-5

Later she gave birth to his brother Abel.

Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.

Colossians 1:15-20

15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

2 Corinthians 8:5

And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.

We Give with Surrendered Hearts

2 Corinthians 9:7-9

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”[a]

We Give With Eternity In Mind

1 Timothy 1:17

17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
